— Three Services
Three Paths, One Standard of Work
Each service at Crownish is scoped to the condition and needs of the piece — not applied as a default programme.
Back to Home— How the Bench Works
The Approach Across All Services
Each piece that arrives at the bench is treated as its own project. Before any tool is picked up, the watch is examined and a condition note is written — describing the presenting issue, visible wear, and any prior repairs that are apparent. This note is the start of the service record.
Work is not begun speculatively. There is a clear scope for each service, communicated to the owner, and any deviation from that scope — because something unexpected is found, or because a different level of work is warranted — is discussed before it is acted on.
At completion, every piece is accompanied by a printed record. This is not a form-letter receipt but a document that notes what was done, what was observed, and what to keep in mind for future maintenance.

Service 01
Crystal Polishing & Replacement
Light polishing of mineral and acrylic crystals removes fine surface scratches accumulated through normal wear. Where a crystal is cracked, chipped at the edge, or otherwise beyond polishing, full replacement is the appropriate path. Original-style parts are sourced where available; sapphire crystals are sourced new rather than polished. The source of any replacement part is noted on the service slip.
Before any crystal is fitted, the owner is shown the available stock — either at the bench or by photograph — and the choice is confirmed. This takes slightly longer than fitting the first available option, but it means the owner knows what is on their watch.
- Mineral and acrylic polishing for fine-scratch surfaces
- Full crystal replacement for cracks, chips, or deep scratches
- Sapphire crystals sourced on request for appropriate cases
- Owner views crystal stock before fitting is confirmed
- Source noted on service slip for the owner's reference
Process Steps
Assess crystal condition — determine whether polishing is viable or replacement required
Review available crystal stock; show options to owner before any order is placed
Polish or fit replacement; check fit and seal around the bezel
Issue service slip noting work done, part source, and a post-service water check result

Service 02
Light Movement Service
A light service is appropriate for a mechanical watch that is running and in good general condition but has not been serviced for some years. The work focuses on lubrication points, cleaning of accessible parts, and rate adjustment on a timing machine. It does not involve full disassembly of the movement — that is the scope of the long bench programme.
After the service, a short written report on observed wear is provided. This report is practical — it notes what was found in the accessible parts and gives an honest view of when a fuller service is likely to be needed. A courtesy water-seal check is included for cases that pass visual inspection.
- Lubrication of accessible movement parts
- Cleaning of externally accessible surfaces and keyless works
- Rate adjustment and verification on timing machine
- Written wear report noting observations from accessible parts
- Courtesy water-seal check for visually passing cases
Process Steps
Intake assessment — rate noted before any work begins; condition of crown, case, and crystal observed
Lubrication and partial clean of accessible parts, including keyless works
Rate checked on timing machine; result noted and adjustment made where possible
Water-seal check performed on qualifying cases; printed service slip issued with wear observations

RM 980
Service 03
Long Bench Restoration
The long bench programme is appropriate for older mechanical pieces, watches that have not been serviced in many years, or pieces whose condition is not well understood and which warrant a detailed examination. It covers full disassembly, ultrasonic and manual cleaning of parts, review of wear and condition of each component, replacement of gaskets, regulation of the movement, and thorough reassembly.
The programme runs with defined stop-points. At each stage, the owner receives photographs and notes on what was found. Continuation to the next stage requires the owner's confirmation. This is not a formality — it gives the owner real control over the scope of work and the cost, particularly when unexpected findings arise.
- Full disassembly and ultrasonic cleaning of movement parts
- Component-level wear review and condition assessment
- Gasket replacement, mainspring inspection, regulation
- Stage-by-stage photographs and notes to owner
- Printed completion record with photograph archive
Process Steps
Intake assessment — condition written, timing machine reading, photographs of as-received state
Disassembly; parts photographed and assessed; owner receives stage notes — confirmation to proceed required
Cleaning, parts sourcing where needed (owner consulted before any part is ordered), gasket replacement
Reassembly, regulation, timing machine verification; water-seal test; delivery with printed record and photograph archive

Best for
Crystal Work
A watch whose movement is running well but the crystal has picked up surface marks or sustained damage. The piece needs a new face, not a service.
Best for
Light Service
A watch in reasonable condition that has not been serviced in several years. Still running but due for fresh lubrication and a rate check. Not showing serious symptoms.
Best for
Long Restoration
An older or vintage piece with significant wear, a movement that has stopped or runs erratically, or an heirloom piece where thorough documentation is as important as the service itself.

Applied Across All Services
Secure Custody
All pieces in service are logged and stored in a locked cabinet. Access is restricted to the watchmaker assigned to the work.
Water-Seal Testing
Cases that pass visual inspection are offered a courtesy water-seal check. Result noted on the service slip.
Parts Transparency
Replacement parts are sourced only after discussion with the owner. Original-pattern components preferred; substitutions disclosed before use.
Post-Service Cover
Movement work: twelve months. Crystal work: six months. Cover applies to the work performed and is noted on the service slip.
