— Why Crownish

What Sets the Bench Apart

Observation First

Before any work begins, the watch is examined and a written note of condition is shared with the owner. There are no surprises mid-way through.

Written Service Records

Every piece leaves with a printed slip noting what was done, what was observed, and what to watch for next. A useful reference for future service.

Stop-Point Confirmations

For restoration work, the owner is consulted before each stage advances. Nothing proceeds without a clear go-ahead.

Timing Machine Verification

Rate accuracy is checked on a timing machine after movement work. The reading is noted on the service slip for the owner's reference.

Parts Sourcing Transparency

When replacement parts are needed, the source is discussed with the owner before ordering. Original-pattern components are preferred where available.

Paced, Unhurried Work

Timelines are set honestly. Bench work is not rushed to meet a quota — quality of outcome is held above speed of turnaround.

— Common Questions

Frequently Asked

How do I know which service is right for my watch? +
The best starting point is to bring the watch in or describe its condition by message. A brief assessment at the bench — usually at no charge — will indicate whether a light service, crystal work, or a longer restoration programme is the more suitable path. There is no obligation to proceed after the initial look.
How long does each service take? +
Crystal work typically takes three to seven working days, depending on whether a part needs to be sourced. A light movement service generally takes two to three weeks. Long bench restorations vary more widely — typically six to twelve weeks — because each stage is documented and the owner is consulted before continuation. A realistic timeline is agreed at the start.
What types of watches do you work on? +
The bench focuses on mechanical and automatic movements — both vintage and modern. Quartz watches are accepted for crystal work. Complex complications and very rare movements are assessed individually; if a piece is beyond the bench's current tooling, this is communicated clearly rather than attempted.
Are the prices listed final, or can they change? +
The prices shown are starting points. For crystal work and light service, the actual cost is usually at or close to the listed figure. For long bench restorations, the final amount depends on parts needed, which is why stop-point confirmations are built into the process — the owner is aware of any cost additions before they are incurred.
What happens if a replacement part cannot be found? +
If an original-pattern part is unavailable, the owner is told before any substitute is sourced. Options are laid out — whether to use an adapted part, wait for sourcing, or accept the piece as-is — and the decision rests with the owner. The watch is not returned with undisclosed substitutions.
Is there a warranty on completed work? +
Work is covered for a period noted on the service slip — generally twelve months for movement services and six months for crystal work. This covers the work performed; it does not cover accidental damage after collection. Any concerns after collection are welcome to be discussed at the bench.
Can I send my watch by post? +
Postal submissions are accepted for customers outside Kuching. Please contact the bench first so packing instructions and address details can be confirmed. The watch should be insured for transit by the sender; Crownish does not accept responsibility for damage or loss in shipping before receipt.
